Herbs

In general use, herbs are any plants used for food, flavoring, medicine, or perfume. Culinary use typically distinguishes herbs from spices. Herbs refer to the leafy green parts of a plant (either fresh or dried), while a “spice” is a product from another part of the plant (usually dried), including seeds, berries, bark, roots and fruits.
Herbs can be perennials such as thyme or lavenderbiennials such as parsley, or annuals like basil. Perennial herbs can be shrubs such as rosemary,Rosmarinus officinalis, or trees such as bay laurelLaurus nobilis – this contrasts with botanical herbs, which by definition cannot be woody plants. Some plants are used as both herbs and spices, such as dill weed and dill seed or coriander leaves and seeds. Also, there are some herbs such as those in the mint family that are used for both culinary and medicinal purposes.

Komquat

By admin

Kumquats (or cumquats in Australian EnglishUK /ˈkʌmkwɒt/;[2] US /ˈkʌmˌkwɑːt/ or /ˈkʌmkwɔːt/[3]) are a group of small fruit-bearing trees in theflowering plant family Rutaceae, either forming the genus Fortunella, or placed within Citrus sensu lato.

The edible fruit closely resembles that of the orange (Citrus sinensis), but it is much smaller, being approximately the size and shape of a large olive. Kumquat is a fairly cold hardy citrus.

The English name “kumquat” derives from the Cantonese 金橘 (Jyutpinggam1gwat1), literally “golden tangerine”.

Jam’s

Jam is a type of fruit preserves.Fruit preserves are preparations of fruitsvegetables and sugar, often canned or sealed for long-term storage.

Many varieties of fruit preserves are made globally, including sweet fruit preserves, such as strawberry or apricot, as well as savoury preserves ofvegetables, such as tomatoes or squash. The ingredients used and how they are prepared determine the type of preserves; jams, jellies, and marmalades are all examples of different styles of fruit preserves that vary based upon the fruit used. In English the world over the plural form “preserves” is used to describe all types of jams and jellies.

The extra virgin olive oil is the product of Lakonia. The olive oil is produced on the day of harvest via cold extraction method and is kept under controlled temperature conditions following strict sanitary control and with the support of modern equipment. The ideal climatologic conditions combined with the prosperous soil allow the producers to follow the traditional techniques, while taking advantage of the modern methods of olives’ cultivation. The result of the whole procedure is the production of an excellent quality product with mild fruity taste, golden green color and with particularly low acidity, below 0.5%.

This oil, part of the Mediterranean diet, is a traditional fat that has been a dietary staple for some of the world’s healthiest populations.

There is actually quite a bit of research behind the health effects of olive oil.

These studies show that the fatty acids and antioxidants in it have some powerful health benefits, such as a reduced risk of heart disease.
Just to mention a few
OLIVE OIL KEEPS THE HEART YOUNG

A diet rich in olive oil may actually be able to slow down the aging of the heart.

It is a known fact that as we grow older the heart also goes through a normal aging process. The arteries may not function as well as they did and this can lead to a number of health problems. However, in a recent study, Spanish researchers discovered that a diet rich in olive oil or other monounsaturated fats could improve the arterial function of elderly individuals.
OLIVE OIL DIET REDUCES RISK OF TYPE 2 DIABETES
OLIVE OIL MIGHT HELP PREVENT STROKES
OLIVE OIL FIGHTS OSTEOPOROSIS
OLIVE OIL MAY PROTECT FROM DEPRESSION
OLIVE OIL FOUND TO HELP PREVENT SKIN CANCER
OLIVE OIL CAN REDUCE THE RISK OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

The health benefits of the Mediterranean diet have been cited in numerous studies, and now with a new large study confirming that it protects from metabolic syndrome we have yet another reason to adopt this style of eating.
The metabolic syndrome is a combination of abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, and high blood sugar. “Metabolic syndrome is connected to the obesity epidemic of our time, a big belly poisons our metabolism and a poisoned metabolism can result in type 2 diabetes, heart attacks, stroke, or sudden death,” a leading researcher noted.

The new study found that a Mediterranean-style diet — which includes olive oil, daily consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grain cereals, and low-fat dairy products, weekly consumption of fish, poultry, legumes, and a relatively low consumption of red meat — can reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome.

Some of our favourite liqueurs are fruit-based. Just think of Cointreau (orange), crème de cassis (blackcurrant) and cherry brandy. The good news is that fruit liqueurs are simple to make and almost any fruit or combination of fruits can be used for flavouring. All you need is fruit, alcohol and sugar. Oh and some patience!
Vodka and gin are the most popular choices. If you use vodka, the fruit will be the dominant flavour; alternatively, gin will bring its own taste to the finished liqueur.

Marmelades

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
